Across Ontario on a Sunday

Our first day went fairly well.  Dennis did most of the driving.  I was ready to take the wheel, but we were approaching Toronto - and I hate driving through cities!  Now, you might think "How bad can it be on an early Sunday afternoon?"  Bad.  Very bad.  Toronto is a huge city and everyone seemed to have some place to go today.  It was such a surprise after out peaceful crossing into Canada and our rural journey along highway 401.

 Welcome to Ontario

Once we got through Toronto, I took the wheel to drive us to Kingston.  Kingston is at the edge of the 1000 Islands area in Lake Ontario.  It is not a huge town, but it is a tourist destination and so some hotels are full tonight.  But we found a Quality Inn right off the highway and checked in with no problem.  We discovered last year that, if we use our credit union debit card, we are not charged any extra fees for purchases outside of the U.S.  Of course we discovered it the hard way by paying extra fees! I also discovered $20 Canadian in my wallet from our adventure on Lake Superior last summer.  Timely discovery.

A local gastropub has been recommended to us for dinner this evening.  Their menu looks good, so we will try it and report back.  Tomorrow we will drive to Vermont, avoiding Montreal, and taking highway 2 down the chain of islands in Lake Champlain to Burlington.  I'm looking forward to this drive.
